Tomorrowland
The largest electronic music festival, which in 2012 was recognized as the best in the world at the Annual International Dance Music Awards. Philosophy of the event in its slogan: Yesterday is History, Today is a Gift, Tomorrow is Mystery. If we paraphrase it to a simpler version, it’s all about living in the moment.
The festival is over fifteen years old, the first time it was held in the summer of 2005. The venue does not change – it is always the Belgian city of Bohm. More than a hundred DJs perform. Among them, you can usually see Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, and Tiesto. The interest in the festival grew gradually. The first couple of years, the music show ran for only one day, then two. And since 2011, Tomorrowland has taken three days. Its feature is the amazing scenery, more like the rides in Disneyland. Each year, the organizers choose a theme for the event and create a site design for it.
Tickets often fly out in minutes, so everyone who wants to get to Tomorrowland will book their seats as soon as sales open. In 2013, a festival record was set of all 180 thousand tickets being sold out in exactly one second.
Coachella
Coachella has been around for over twenty years and always takes place in California. Concerts are held on the main stage, in the open theater, and several tents, which are named after the deserts: Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and Sahara Tent. At the festival, you can not only listen to music and dance but also appreciate contemporary art. Every year, ten days before the start, artists come to Coachella and create art objects. The festival was conceived by the organizers as a place where the most popular performers will gather, therefore Coachella is not associated with any particular musical genre – it is a festival for everyone. Over the years many popular artists have performed here such as Beyoncé, Eminem, AC / DC, Drake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Paul McCartney, Muse, Lady Gaga, and many more.
And it is also the most fashionable music festival. The stars come to Coachella not only to sing but also to show their new look. Many fashion houses even create collections dedicated to the event.
Glastonbury
Next on our list is the British festival, which has been held for fifty years near the city of Glastonbury. Until 2008, only rock musicians were invited to the event, but Jay-Z’s performance changed everything. The rapper became the headliner of the event, and from that moment Glastonbury was considered a celebration of music of all genres. One of the symbols of the festival is dirt. This is due to the fact that the event takes place on a farm that is often flooded. Guests always take rubber boots and raincoats with them, and the best places for tents are those higher on the hillside, so there is less chance of things floating away after the first rain. Glastonbury’s headliners over the years included Coldplay, Metallica, Paul McCartney, Muse, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, and Rolling Stones.
