UNDEROATH have released the single “Cycle” from their upcoming album, “Voyeurist,” due January 14 via Fearless Records. The band collaborated with rapper Ghostemane to create the song after discovering they were fans of each other’s work. The result is a mix of pulsating aggression from the two teams.
Speaking about working with Ghostemane and how the track turned out, UNDEROATH guitarist Tim Mactag explains:
“When we wrote ‘Cycle’ I knew I wanted something abstract and ideally in the hip-hop genre.
We were trying to create a single for a few weeks, and one day Aaron (drums) called me and said that rapper Ghostemane had messaged him on Instagram to say he appreciated what we were doing, and Aaron replied to the rapper that we would like to work with him to get him featured on a track on the new album. I sent his manager the song, and a week or so later we got processed audio from Ghostemane. We listened to the first one he sent and just said, ‘That’s it.'”
Chamberlain (vocalist) adds:
“Every time I hear the track now, time switches me right back to how I felt when we were writing those lyrics and what we were experiencing at the time. I hope one day we get a chance to perform it together live.”
“Voyeurist” marks the first time in UNDEROATH’s legendary career when they took the recording process completely into their own hands. The result is the most collaborative album of UNDEROATH’s career, based on a deep respect for each other. The band calls “Voyeurist” a “high-definition violence”-a technologically advanced but decidedly intuitive album. Conceptually, “Voyeurist” has several interrelated meanings, each related to the concept of how we curate ourselves through social media, and how that facade hides much of what we actually experience in life. The album is a cohesive listening experience with enough layers to give fans a fresh perspective and a new favorite track at every turn. In anticipation of the album’s release, fans were able to find excerpts from the new songs in exchange for providing access to a camera through the band’s immersive website, voyeurist.io.
By the way, “Voyeurist” is already available for pre-order.
